I can’t recall my kill total, but I think you did pretty well on your second attempt. I never legitimately made it past Zombie Kong, so it will be interesting to see how far your six shotties gets you.

3rd try - 24 stamina
Followed the same route as last time (as it felt right) until the library where I flicked a switch and found a cell downstairs, where I was killed - 51 zombies killed.
4th try - 25 stamina, followed EXACTLY the same route again, and this time killed by the poison tip dart in the library! 51 zombies killed.
5th try - 23 stamina - managed to kill the zombies through the library, then not long after I was killed when a zombie threw a grenade at me. 88 zombies killed

BLOOD OF THE ZOMBIES - LAST SHOTTIE (EVER!!) 32stamina
Same sort of route again because I'm sure it would be right, I actually found a few more zombies I missed during my 2nd shotty, however, my dice were no where near as lucky as that shot (and I reckon I was ASTRONOMICALLY lucky to get as far as I did then!) so I was killed by zombie Boris! However , i did kill 188 zombies this time!
This book is fine for a single playthrough I reckon! The path is narrow, its obviously pointless when you know you are doomed, but again, I must bring upthe illustrations (and I think everyone else does too) because they are POSSIBLY my favourite in any FF book!
Port Of Peril next. Like this one, bought it when it came out, haven't even glanced at it!

You should have a far easier time with Port of Peril. I’m anticipating a win on this one. I’ll be intrigued to discover your overall thoughts on it.

Well , having read the background to 'Port of Peril' for the first time this morning, I was struck by how it was genuinely sweet and charming and kind of naive at the same time. Which is a promising start!

PORT OF PERIL
1st shottie - 12/19/11 - Had a nice wander aroond Chalice. Didnt seem to have the money to buy stuff. Anyway, I leave Chalice and take shelter in a ruined cottage, fight a couple of Man Orcs, then a zombie, then I dont leave a cellar and get locked in and presumably I starve to death...

2nd shottie - 10/24/10 - This time I avoided the ruined cottage and trekked across the Moonstone Hills. I went in a cave and killed a scary Plague Witch. Then I found the cave system I was after. However ,beacuse Idont pay attention to the background (which I reread after) I took a wrong turn and ended up trapped.
3rd shotty - 8/22/11 - Played it much the same as last time but checked out the cottage again and found some crap and a bracelet . Back in the caves , I met a scary man who appeared to want my sheep's eyeballs but decided to fight me with his skill 10 scariness. I had a potion of strength and seeing how there is nothing in the rules to say i couldn't drink it during a battle, I drank it during a battle
I still died!
Hmm. I'm not doing very well, am I?

4th try - 7/18/9 - See, with crappy stats like that, yer better doing this - Go the mansion house, climb the wall even though a couple of bakers tell ye not too, then jump down and nearly die fighting a couple dogs, limp to the front door and get thrown in a cell and eventually succumb to a rat bite.

5th try - 11/21/12 - MUCH better! I killed the scary man in the caves, made pals with a ninja , went to see Yaztromo after a lot of 'vaguely' entertaining encounters. Jumped on a horse and got to Port Blacksand where I paid a guard 10gp to get in. Then the guards captured me the wee rascals. Jings that playthrough took A LONG TIME. I'll do my max stats playthrough tommorow

THE PORT OF PERIL
MAX STATS - final shotty
HMM. The most interesting thing was when I walked into a shop and showed the shopkeeper the pistol I had, and how i got it - I DONT HAVE ONE! Anyway, I never had a bow & arrow either which meant having met Zanbar Bone - he killed me! (I used the 3 skill offered as an attack strength bonus on the previous encounter btw)
FAIL!!
Think I've seen enough of this book - that was close enough to the end for me!

The Gates Of Death results tonight... - just warning you, I have never disliked a gamebook so much ! (even Chasms of Malice), the bugs, badly written circular stuff and stupid time travel nonsense is wearing me out!

THE GATES OF DEATH
1st shotty
8/18/9 - I got killed very early on by running down a street and meeting a bunch of thieves. With a 2 skill penalty for having noweapon, I had nochance....
2nd shotty - 10/15/11 - Got a good bit further.I met a woman who was supposed to be familiar but I'd never seen her before, I got lost in Salamonis and ended up travelling back in time - Ah What fun! Then back to Salamonis where I found the mapmaker and got his swift boots and stuff. Then I went down a corpse road, and found a bunch of Imps. I had nofirewater soI was killed by something or other.
3rd shotty - 10/16/10 - This time I met Nicodemus which was interesting, though why he was acting so shifty I have no idea. Anyway, Back in Salamonis, I got lost and got killed by a bunch of demon citizens...

4th shotty (part one)
So I got the the invisible city and ended up travelling in timeagain..... Anyway, there was an event where I had to selct an option that I couldnt do without cheating so I had to backtrack and find another reference, and now I'm stuck and VERY bored farting about giving people oil and meeting fish headed men and bum faced monsters.
I might abandon this playthrough and try again - but I'm really despairing with this book , its dull, badly constructed and too long...

I messed up at the final hurdle and just didn't have the energy to give it another go. There's some nice ideas in there but the whole is far less than the sum of its parts.

So, I've mentioned it before but I have a shop , a kilt shop, you can imagine how dead it is just now with weddings getting cancelled and so on. Anyway, the 'plus' side is, I brought in 'Gates Of Death' and spent the better part of my day beating the nasty thing...
4th try - 9/20/11 - I restarted my fourth shottie. I really should have made maps, but anyway, in Salamonis, I found the south gate and that didn't work out very well for me coz I died.
5th try - 10/18/10 - Made it to the temple , this time I found the High Priestess and the way to the Gates of Death itself. I had nothing to lose so I went in and of course died.

MAX STATS (But only when it pleased me)
So, I had to sit and actually map the Temple. (Well, make a flow chart thingy) Anyway, this is where the book is SO badly constructed. The only way all that looping which happens was going to work properly would have been with the addition of about 100 references so their could be a 'Have you been here before ?' option. It was crazy that before the Gates Of Death there was a man who was just aboot dead and because I didnt have the right item at the time, i had to wander about for ages and then go back to him, where he was still just about dead. Fighting the stupid bum faced monster three times was tiresome as well. Anyway, I fudged my fight going through the gates so that I died, but that was my only cheat and I can live with that
SORT OF SUCCESS!
Now, I dont have 'Assassins' yet (I ordered it from Amazon over the weekend but no sign yet!
So Job done at present!!!

67/68 books played!
Failures - 27 failures - House Of Hell, Seas Of Blood, Sword of The Samurai, Trial of Champions, Masks of Mayhem, Creature of Havoc, Crypt Of The Sorcerer, Chasms of Malice, Sky Lord, Armies Of Death, Fangs of Fury, Black Vein Prophecy, Tower Of Destruction, Crimson Tide, Seige Of Sardath, Return to Firetop Mountain, Island of the Undead and books 53-59! , Bloodbones, Blood of The Zombies & Port Of Peril
& 9 where I needed max stats - Deathtrap Dungeon, Space Assassin, Temple Of Terror, Rebel Planet, Robot Commando, Battleblade Warrior, Master Of Chaos, Eye Of The Dragon & Gates of Death (sort of)
My job is more or less done! That took nearly two years on and off. It was very odd how during one of my many breaks, the thought of playing a gamebook would enter my head, I would grab the book in question and my brain would protest! Then there were other periods where I was getting through all six shotties in a day!
Been good fun though, its not like me to see something through!
In the meantime, while I'm waiting on Assassins, I am going to take a 'very' random non FF gamebook to the shop each day and play it through with the smae 6 shottie rule! - I'll post the results in the most relevant section I can find!

I keep picking Assassins of Allansia up, reading the nonsense background and thinking that its really not worth all the hassle for 20GP. I've decided I'll start playing through the fighting fantazine gamebooks instead! From tommorow - I need something new to do.

I can't get into it either - though in my case, it's because I know about the stupid ending that completely ignores a 30 year old book so Ian can do his usual randomly forcing everything together. I'm amazed he hasn't tried to make Freeway Fighter a follow up to Crypt with his canon abuse yet...

RESURRECTION OF THE DEAD.
9/15/12
1st SHOTTY
Ever have one of those playthroughs that have felt doomed from the start? Aye, me too!
I went looking for a weapon, no joy, though I felt I was missing the point somehow. Back to the pub and met a man who agreed to give me a weapon and handed me a note which spelled some numbers (and other things) backwards.
Got a sword the next day, went onto the heath, met a Skill 11 Night Stalker, and he killed me.

2nd SHOTTY
11/23/9
Amazing how big this feels! Lots of choices, and I don't think I'm making the right ones! This time I didnt waste time looking for a weapon, and met some beggars instead. Talking to one I got a couple of wee clues about stuff. I visited my friend Karl then went stomping around the heath on my first day - Note to self - don't do this if you don't have a weapon!
Because I was killed by a skill 11 Xoroa Warrior!

3rd SHOTTY
I ended up with max stats - nice one!
I had a blether with people in the tavern first this time. Lots of talk about the cemetery so I go there next.
I have a look at a crypt, then go through a door and a Wight kills me as I have absolutely nothing to help me!!
Next 3 playthroughs tommorow!

Oh look I'm back already!
4TH SHOTTY
12/21/12
Tried things in a different order and its amazing how much is packed into this wee tale. Good stats meant I could kill a Decayer easy enough, and a Living corpse. Had a good wander in the heath (with a weapon) and killed the xoroa and marked a tree. Back to the tavern again, lots of info from people but I seem incapable of pulling them all together.
Anyway, back to the heath and killed lots of skeletons. I met the sorceror and he killed me because I never found a ring from a dead thief.
Damn! - I wonder where it is.
Maybe tommorow?

5th SHOTTY
9/20/12
I'm not paying attention..... Went for a wander without a weapon and got killed by the Decayer....
FINAL SHOTTY
max stats
Tried to choose as many different options as possible. However, I'm either not paying attention or I'm really unlucky. Anyway, after doing much the same as my 4th playthrough I eventually find an Earth Demon with the same skkill as me. It's close, but he kills me
FAIL!!
This is a neat wee adventure however. It's nicely written and seems much bigger than it actually is. I've always skipped past the gamebooks in the fantazines, so I'm glad I'm finally getting round to them!

I am kinda hoping that you will relent and have a go at Assassins just to see if you repeat the same paths I did, and complete it on the 3rd attempt which I never bothered about.

ASSASSINS OF ALLANSIA.
1st shottie
Skill12, stamina 14, luck 7
Hmm, taking a potion of fortune with me! - let's see what happens...
