DEATHMOOR
1st try - 12/17/10 (potion of fortune boosted to 11)
The last book i got (from my lovely wife) to complete my Green spine run
I have managed to complete it , but that was MANY yearrs ago,and i dont remember much.
Ahhhhh, nice and traditional. My wander around Arion was lots of fun. I think I did all the right things, apart from visiting the Baron where I got killed by a giant bat thing...
2nd try 12/21/8 - OK, managed to get out of Arion (It really was a well written segment, I would have been happy to have spent much longer there!) I wandered around Deathmoor , i kept a decent looking map. I have no idea if i was doing the right things or not, but I gotkilled by the Flintskins because i had a nasty medallion.

3rd try - 7/20/11 - Ouch! really nasty skill. Anyway,I still managed to get to Deathmoor and tried poking into various different areas. Unfortunately i lost half my proviosions to a Timber Wolf and my stamina was getting knackered. This meant i got killed by a skill 6 Pterolin!
4th try - 9/20/12 - Back to the Moor. I killed the Pterolin and found a whistle, after crawling through some tunnels i ended up somewhere which destroyed my map a bit. Anyway, the whistle came in handy in getting oot a nasty swamp. However, eventually, I walked off a cliff in the fog which was a bit of an unfair ending to be honest...

5th try 10/23/12
Similar sort of playthrough but this time I found a wee clue and ended up in a stand of oaks and found a 'thing' I also ended up at a door where I needed 3 'things', I left and fell off the same cliff as last time!
6th try - MAX stats! This time I collected 2 'things' (I got another one from the flintskins. However, that was still no use obviously so off the cliff i went!!
FAIL
I do remember when i completed it finding a weird way forward rather than needing things , but clearly i didnt find it. Its still a perfectly fun book to play though (though the earlier parts are the best!)
Onwards to Knights of Doom tonight though - think i've only played this one twice before and got sick of it quickly - we'll see!

I do remember when i completed it finding a weird way forward rather than needing things , but clearly i didnt find it. Indeed although it's quite far through and difficult to find - more so than the three things in my opinion! Good luck with Knights of Doom - you'll need it! |

KNIGHTS OF DOOM
Work was getting in the way there , but noo its out the road again - here we go...
Actually enjoying this book more than i thought I would, its got a nice dark feel to it with fun spooky illustrations and a sense of urgency and impending doom. However that doesnt mean i'm getting anywhere really...
1st shot - 11/20/12 - OK, I killed a giant boar and recruited two separate armies which is nice. I kept getting asked for codewords and items i didnt have which obviously was a bit depressing. I got into a huge lengthy and very tedious fight with some 'Mummers' which i'll avoid next time. Despite time being pressing i took a detour to deal with a nasty necromancer. However, i either missed the point or missed something coz i couldnt open his tomb, soi died

2nd shot - 9/18/11 - Hm, ok , poked my way around a bit more so after killing the boar I found a cleric doing bad things and got a codeword! This meant that after avoiding the 'Mummers' i instead found the Clerics and didnt have the right stuff and a big thorny monster killed me...

ok, i dodged the clerics and the necromancer. found a banshee and cockatrice and i never read anything about him so he killed me.
4th shottie - got a miiror and the knowledge so killed him thistime! i even sorted the clerics oot. however i tried again with the necromancer and still died coz i couldnt open a door!

5th shot 7/21/10
i limped through this time with my crappy skill and got wasted by a bunch of chaos centaurs.
6th try max stats - i avoided the necromacer again which is probs wrongbut anyway i encountered an iron golem and the amount of things he could do to hurt me was crazy, so i died!
not too bad a book storywise but the gameplay is 'challenging'

alsi for the record the last four tries i settled on commune, tracking, banish spirit and ride as without them my luck would have run to a minus on occassion!

MAGEHUNTER
Think I played this maybe twice and got fed up with the massive notetaking exercise and codeword tracking etc. anyway
1st shot 12/13/10 - Stats got knocked bad early. I have a moany face companion. I learn how to talk the language then jump on a magic carpet. I decide to change places with Reinhart and he doenst like it so i fall off and die
2nd shot 9/18/12 -I tried something different right at the start and roll a bad number and die trying to enter another world...
3rd shot - 12/16/9 - Get a bitty further this time. I try and chase down a man that looks like Mencius. Turns out it wasn't him and we fight and we have matching stats and i die.

4th shot - 10/18/9 - I managed to actually meet Mencius this time! However, I had next to nothing useful on me , so I died!
5th shot - 7/18/7 - Tried to do different stuff and ended up with a ring and I stupidly asked the wrong question (coz i wasnt paying attention) and the Genie killed me.
6th try - max stats - I actually seemed to do quite a lot of the right things, I kept a hold of the genie, I found where Mencius was and i still had my pistol so I killed him. I also managed to get home, but Reinhart was dead.... So a failure it is!
FAIL!!!
An OK book, but I have little intention to play it again. The gameplay was ludicrously complex and took me out of the story most of the time. The artwork was crap as well....

The artwork was crap as well.... Oh wow, are FF fans allowed to say anything against Russ Nicholson? I've never actually found the genie so that's pretty cool. |

he is by far my favourite ff artist! however, eitherhe had no time orcouldnt be arsed. some of the pictures were unfinished looking and more than one featured things that i still couldnt work out

REVENGE OF THE VAMPIRE
Tried reading this once, and gave up coz i was bored.
1st try - 10/18/10
Nice early death, I wandered around the monastery and decided to confront Endrall. He escorted me back to my room and i drank some poison and died.
2nd try - 11/17/12 - Did a lot of stuff, probably ALL wrong, I met the witches and killed one or two, then i decided to head for the mansion. In a wee village, i met two ruffians, killed one and spared the other. He stabbed me in the belly, it was a wee bit sore and then i died.
....

3rd try - 8/18/11 - Another quick shotty. Endrell with his skill 9 was too much for me!
4th try - 7/17/10 - Exactly the same , killed by Endrall! - Maybe I dont need to fight him?
5th try - 8/21/7 - This time I was killed by Igor (having struggled past Endrall) , which is a shame coz he has a nice magic sword.
Gah - I'm really GETTING No where with this book! - Max stats tommorow!

REVENGE OF THE VAMPIRE
Final shotty - max stats
Obviously I made it a bit further. I rescued a trader which opened up new oppurtunities and meant I knew what to do with the witches. I then went to the mansion.
I decided to look for another way in -and got my head chopped off!
FAIL!!
Not sure what to make of this book because although i went to quite a lot of locations, I have a sneaky suspicion that the mansion part was going to be huge and very dull.....
Next up Curse Of The Mummy - I have had half a playthrough is this book (and got bored) so more or less new for me

CURSE OF THE MUMMY
1st shot - 7/23/12 - Well I managed to defeat a cultist , then i met a skill 9 Black Lion who was too much for me.
2nd shot - 8/17/11 - So I decided to avoid the Black Lion and go shopping instead. I then met a skill 10 Scorpion with 2 attacks and he killed me.

I am getting so far with this book!

In the Wizard edition, the scorpion's Skill is reduced to 8. Might be worth applying that fix to help you get a bit further!

I made the desiscion that ,as the Scorpion Skill of 10 in the Puffin addition wasnt actually a mistake (unlike say the Mudworm in Crimson tide), I had to stick with it....
Which was a wonderful idea
4th try - 7/21/7
5th try - 8/14/9
Guess what killed me both times!

Curse Of The Mummy
Final shottie - MAX stats!
OK, so I got passed the Scorpion (although he did put up a brave fight) I found an actor, and a really nice encounter with a Dracon then a cool shaman. I got a nice easy riddle correct - Braw!
Then I had to work out kilometres on a map thing - not a clue, so i'm afraid i did cheat there or my playthrough would have ended! Anyway, I found the tomb, fought some Caarth and eventually got crushed by the fangs of Sithera - ouch!
FAIL FAIL
Thes book was ok, but lacked focus i reckon - didnt really feel like a J. Green offering

I guess either play each book individually or give yourself 6 shotties at each book and if you win you can take the character on to the next book and get six shotties for that book with that same character. Not too sure how max stats would work with that method though - maybe if you get to your 6th shottie, you could give the character max stats to beat the current book and then the stats go back to "normal" once you start your first shottie on the next book? Spellcheck really doesn't like the word "shottie"! |
