CREATURE OF HAVOC
Although I played this book loads and completed it twice, I reckon, I cant remember at all how to go around the dungeon correctly. I doubt six tries will get me anywhere!

Couple of goes the night Have you got the broken version like me? I'm sure you remember the glitch but be mindful if you have the early version. |

I do think there's too much note-taking and some of the cities aren't that interesting, but the gameplay is very balanced and original and I love the non-linearity and multiple endings. It'd be interesting to see what other people think. Yeah it certainly has its pluses and occasionally I quite enjoy it when I'm in the mood, but I far prefer Scorpion Swamp when it comes to the non-linear approach. Robot Commando just feels a bit too empty for me. But I enjoy all the books to some extent. I really like Robot Commando. I love the way that it presents the world of a five year old's wet dream without feeling any need for explanation. I like the nonlineality and balance of the book. I think it could have easily had a sequel, but would then have required an explanation of the world in which it's set. |

CREATURE OF HAVOC
1st shot - 8/17/12 - Rubbishy stats and didnt get far at all, I was killed by the warrior thief because I never rolled any doubles...
2nd shot - 11/18/8 - First vapour - got it. Pendant got that as well. No sign of the vapour of tongues and i'm sure its somewhere near. Anyway, I stomp about a good bit and its annoying when people like hannicus speak to me and as a reader I can understand him, but my character cant yet, so I cant do anything about it. Anyway, I fail a luck roll crossing the river and drown anyway.
3rd shot - 11/23/12 - Big meaty guy. However, I still havent found the vapour I want. I end up in a room with a hornet and it kills me!
4th try - 12/23/11- STILL cant find the vapour. I end up getting killed in a 'furnace trap'
My maps looking pretty big now, can I get out of the dungeon with two tries left?

5th try - 8/17/9 - I keep trying different places and still cant find the vapour I want - Ouch I am killed in a rock fall
MAX STATS - I really have done some splendid mapping. However, it does me no good as I get killed in the blackmouth floortrap.....
FAIL
I obviously didn't expect to win with only six tries but my lack of progress was very frustrating!!!

BENEATH NIGHTMARE CASTLE
1st shot - 12/18/10 - Always liked this book.. However, I always forget what to do - anyway, I took a wrong turn and ended up in the mouth of a monster.
2nd try - 9/23/12 - looking good, I had the trident etc. However Senyakhaz ended up escaping, so although I lived, it was rubbish
3rd try - 10/21/12 - I failed the willpower roll against Senyakhaz, soIdied.

4th try - 12/21/9 - Yep, I made it too the end, and had to fight the big bad, but I had a skill equivalent to 14 so I won through. SUCCESS!! Great fun! - although the farting about before you enter the keep is pretty dull. The illustrations have never been my cup of tea (though I understand a lot of other people enjoy them.) |

OK , a couple of 'live' playthroughs tonight of... CRYPT OF THE SORCERER It does have a suitably halloweeny cover , I suppose.. anyway, I have zero recollection of the correct path for this book, but I suppose it makes no odds anyway. so; 1ST TRY - 7/17/12 marvellous, I should last a long time. I'll report back when i'm done.. |

OK. I died. Fought three chameleonites, gave away a knife for a ring, fled to a wood, and died after failing my skill against a Wood Demon.
Another shot? - Och aye!
2ND TRY - 11/22/10
That's better, hopefully i'll make a wee bit of headway.

Ok. I died. I got past the Wood Demon (although I rolled badly against him) I find stuff and get the sword. I get back to Yaztromo (I roll very badly against a griffin and centaur). I make two new pals and we look for the gargantis. We find it, but I don't have a crystal pendant thing, so I kill my new pals and then I die....
OK, That's enough for tonight I reckon, two more shotties the morn!

ok,back to CRYPT
3rd try - 11/20/10 - so I'm looking for a pendant. I get my sword stuck in a clay golem while doing that, so I die.
4th try - 11/17/9 - so, aboot this pendant..... I wander into all the nooks and crannies I can, but I meet the Gargantis without finding the pendant so i die again.

5th try - 9/20/10 - Not going to get far with these stats. However, looking at my map, I suppose the pendant HAS to be on the path I keep ignoring right at the start.
ah, good it was!! However, I get killed by the Centaur after earlier taking a beating from the Griffin.
I'm on the right track now - Max stats!

6TH TRY - Ok, I make it in reasonable shape to Razaaks caves. However, I pull and lever and get squished.
which is a shame.
(I cheat and play on a bit coz I have no intention of playing this nonsense again. I find the ID so I end up having all the bits and bobs I need which is something. I try killing Razaak a few times with max stats, but of course he wins consecutive attack rounds each time.)
FAIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I actually think you did pretty well on Crypt for just six shots. Shame you got squished but still, you had a decent stab at it.

STAR STRIDER
Reckon I haven't opened this book in 30 years, I have NO memory of it whatsoever. OK, a few too many rules but i'll let it pass. No mention of caps on skill, stamina or luck so good...
1st try - 10/22/12 Didn't last long, I got killed after I fought back when a fat man punched me.
2nd try - 7/19/12 I got killed after fighting three thugs with skill as poor as mine...
Two shotties enough for tonight. Its not the worst sci fi ff book, but neither is it terribly exciting either.......

Star Strider is a dull book...
3rd try - 10/18/9 - Got quite far , I'm thinking. I ended up beside a map where I got a bonus of 4 luck points, which is surely a record. ? At that point it meant I then had a luck score of 19 which is.... lucky! Anyway, I went the wrong way in the tunnels and died.
4th try - 11/21/10 - I went the same route and got through the tunnels safely this time, found the president and saved the day! (with a record breaking luck of 21, and a stamina of 32!)
SUCCESS!!!
Very forgettable book, certainly don't need toplay it again!!

PHANTOMS OF FEAR
Been a good while since I this one.
1st try - 8/19/8 Power 14 - Crappy stats. It felt like I was going on the right path, I ended up with three vaguely important seeming items with reference numbers attached which is always a good sign. However, I lost a skill point and ended up dying while fighting 3 dark elves...
2nd try - 7/21/9 Power 16 - Pointless Skill. I probs should have went on some different routes with these stats but I didn't. I walked through a clearing and got killed by a Slime Monster...
I'm really enjoying this book though. Its very well written with nice disturbing illustrations. More playthroughs the morn...

3rd try - 10/22/12 with 16 power. Stuck with the path i'd been on. It all felt pretty good, I got to Ishtra's lair and avoided a lot of bother. however, I was wearing a pendant which turned me into a slave! 4th try - 11/20/11 power 17 - Good stats so i'll stick to the same route, getting a bit boring but there ye go. Anyway, I DONT pick up a pendant this time, and after some very tiresome and very lucky rolls against my power, I meet Ishtra and fight in the dream world. I have a power of 23 so I can fight him. Its a bit of a struggle, but I win! SUCCESS!! Good book! |

MIDNIGHT ROGUE
A favourite when I was a laddie, now it seems a bit bland and very linear....
1st shot
9/16/9 - I fell down a drainpipe - ouch!
2nd shot
8/18/9 - I took to long fighting a guard.
3rd shot
12/16/12 - Nice stats!! - Not nice special skills though as I got stuck with a lack of Spot hidden / secret signs
